5 Benefits of A Good Night’s Sleep

When did you go to bed last night? To many of those who were asked this question in a recent survey, the answers were appalling. Most people sleep late and wake up early, thus giving very little time to the body to rest. As we tend to work overtime, our bodies get tired and weak. You may know this is unhealthy, but do you know how much? Not having enough sleep can actually shorten your lifespan! Well, we’re not here to scare you, but we’ll certainly tell you how sleep is really, really important. Here are 5 benefits of a good night’s sleep, according to researchers:

Better Memory

Sleep boosts your memory and helps you function more efficiently. As your brain gets tired of work, it slowly loses energy to remember and process activity into your mental storage. Have you ever forgotten something important when you were in a hurry? It may be because your brain is tired. Sleeping for adequate hours each day is important for overall rejuvenation. For students, a good night’s sleep is crucial in remembering what you learned and memorized throughout the day.

Keeps You Fit

Sleep keeps you fit. Lack of sleep can result in illnesses. Your body releases inflammatory proteins if you sleep less. The C- reactive protein, which has been directly linked to fatal ailments like heart attack and cancer is found in those who lose out on critical sleep hours, typically less than six. Now, new research has been able to find a direct link between lack of sleep and a shorter lifespan. A good explanation for this could be the loss of energy incurred by your brain, which ultimately weakens over time. So, make sure you keep your phone or laptop away at bedtime!

You Become More Creative

Sleep has been shown to induce creativity. If you sleep better, there is a better chance that you may come up with new, amazing ideas for yourself. This is because your brain can rest when you sleep, thus allowing it to think better for you. For people who are into careers that involve strategy and planning, creativity is probably the most important part of your jobs, so ensure that you go to bed on time. Don’t believe us? Why not give it a go yourself and look for the difference?

No Depression, Better Attention

Lack of sleep has been linked to depression. People who sleep less are prone to be more depressed than those who sleep for adequate periods of time. It is also said that sleep can help you concentrate better. If your brain gets enough rest, it obvious you won’t have to drool during the day. You shall be able to work more efficiently. Should you happen to suffer from sleep disorders such as insomnia, it’s best to get it treated, or it may ruin your permanent sleep cycle.

Stay Safe

We saved the most important one for the end. If you drive to work or travel often in a vehicle, sleep is something you shouldn’t do without. In a number of reports, people who have less sleep are shown to be inattentive at the wheel. Some have even dozed off right on the driver’s seat! While following traffic rules are important, if you are a commuter, sleep is very important too. Lack of it may cost you dearly, so why not just stay in bed for a few extra hours and remain safe?

If you’re reading this, you know how important sleep is for you. From keeping you away from being sick to improving your quality of life, sleep is a natural medicine that you can’t and obviously, shouldn’t do without. While it might keep you from completing that oh so important assignment before time, it’s certainly helping you stay safe. Remember this the next time you stay up late! Sweet dreams to you!

New Sleep Guidelines for Babies, Kids and Teens

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has released new guidelines for how much sleep children should get. The guidelines released today encompass recommendations the American Academy of Pediatrics has made at different times for different ages. And they’re based on a review of scientific evidence on sleep duration and health.

Infants 4 to 12 months – 12 to 16 hours of sleep every 24 hours (including naps).
Children 1 to 2 years – 11 to 14 hours of sleep every 24 hours (including naps).
Children 3 to 5 years – 10 to 13 hours of sleep every 24 hours (including naps).
Children 6 to 12 years – 9 to 12 hours of sleep every 24 hours.
Teens 13 to 18 years – 8 to 10 hours of sleep every 24 hours.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine says adequate sleep is linked with improved attention, behavior, learning, mental and physical health at every stage of a child’s growth.

The National Sleep Foundation has found that over 85 percent of teens lack adequate sleep. Sleep matters: deprivation and tiredness affect schoolwork, attention, mood, interactions, unhealthy weight risk and lifelong health habits. Having undiagnosed OSA could be the underlying issue causing them to be loosing countless hours of sleep.

The AAP also recommends all screens be turned off at least 30 minutes before bedtime and suggests keeping televisions, computers, smartphones and other screens out of kids’ bedrooms. Light stimulates wakefulness.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is also telling parents not to lose too much sleep over these new recommendations.

We should take into consideration that each of our families is different, different schedules. Each family needs to find what works best for their dynamic and overall function — there is not a one-size-fits-all solution to sleep. Even ‘a decent hour’ is defined differently in different families, cultures, and situations, there are also other drugs that help sleep. The overarching message is that we all need to better prioritize sleep health for our children, and that starts with prioritizing it for the entire family, by doing the best we can for our sleep as getting the best comforters with the information here so everyone sleep comfortable.

Buying Sustainable Bedding

There is nothing as good as having good bedding, we all want somewhere we can crawl up to for a warm cozy feeling. Since the bed is somewhere we go to after a long busy day tired, we want somewhere that can give us comfort and help us to rest well and rejuvenate. With that in mind, the choice of bedding is very important. Even though this may be influence by personal style, there are factors that still remain a constant that should be given consideration to make sure that you have sustainable and long lasting bedding that will serve the function well. Some of the factors that you should consider include:
The type of material used

The kind of material used is very important factor to consider. Some materials are more cost than others and this mainly depends on personal preference. You should choose the material that is right and of high quality and durable. Depending on what you prefer, the kind of material that you choose should make you feel cozy and comfortable.

Go for quality

If you want something of high quality then you should be willing to spend some amount of money. Investing in luxurious bedding is never a bad buy; it’s a good investment since the sustainability will be worthwhile.
Check the thread count

You can do a thread count by counting the number of horizontal and vertical threads in a square inch of fabric. The more the count the better, since it means that your bedding will be softer and more durable. High quality bedding is defined by a thread count of 200 and above.
Texture

Texture is very important when it comes to beddings. Texture not only defines the feel of the bedding against the skin but can make the bedding interesting or not. There are many things that can be used to add texture to beddings such as runching and pintucks. Good thing with the right texture, it will hide any form of wrinkles.
Mix patterns and styles

This is not only for the creative but anyone; it gives a luxurious feel to the beddings. It’s boring if the patterns and styles are not mix and matched, it has a way of creating monotony. For some reason mix and matching also adds a good feeling to the beddings.
Choose the right duvet covers

As much as you may have the right duvet, it is nothing without the right duvet cover. The duvet cover should have ties in the corners. With the corners, it is easy to smooth out the duvet in the cover and will make it easy to spread the bed when you wake up every morning.
Conclusion

With the digital era, finding the right beddings has never been easier. There are many sites dealing with beddings and they have user reviews that can guide you in shopping.
